Our recommendations

Beaches🇮🇩 Nusa Penida, Indonesia
Less open context

A place we recommend in a context where some discretion may feel preferable. This does not mean the venue is discriminatory.

Kelingking Beach

Kelingking Beach is undoubtedly one of Nusa Penida’s most iconic landscapes, and it’s easy to see why! With its enormous T-Rex-shaped cliff plunging towards turquoise water and its golden-sand beach, the scenery is breathtaking. But what makes it even more remarkable is walking down to the beach and seeing those towering cliffs from below. Unfortunately, the lift structure built into the cliffside somewhat spoils a landscape that would otherwise feel almost unreal.

Woywoy Escape Tabo

Woywoy Escape Tabo is a place to stay in the Ubud area of Bali, where peace and privacy are the main attractions. Surrounded by greenery, with views of rice fields and a small forest, it’s a lovely setting to unwind. Between the pool, the bathtub and the private spaces, everything invites you to slow down and enjoy your stay.

Gogo Bali Cocktails Bar & Karaoke

In Ubud, Gogo Bali is a laid-back karaoke bar where people come to sing, have a few drinks and enjoy an easygoing night out. It's nothing like a fancy nightclub: songs follow one another, groups mingle, and it's easy to end up staying much longer than planned.

Sangeh Monkey Forest

Located in Sangeh village, around 30 minutes from Ubud depending on traffic, this forest is home to hundreds of free-roaming macaques among towering trees. It also contains the Hindu Pura Bukit Sari temple, built in the 17th century and still used for religious ceremonies. We chose it over Ubud’s famous Sacred Monkey Forest for its more authentic feel and the staff’s guidance during encounters with the monkeys.

Dolphin swimming at Lovina Beach

On Bali’s north coast, Lovina Beach is known for boat trips to see wild dolphins. Tours generally leave very early, around 6 a.m., when the chances of spotting them are particularly good. It’s a rather unusual way to discover these animals in their natural habitat.

Mancingan Rice Terrace

Mancingan Rice Terraces are a lovely little stretch of terraced rice fields, ideal for a short walk through Bali's green countryside. A path takes you past the paddies, with plenty of opportunities for photos and glimpses of everyday local life. Allow around 20 to 30 minutes for a relaxed return walk. Entry is free, although you can leave a voluntary donation.

Located in Sayan, away from central Ubud, Bubu Warung is a small family-run restaurant serving homemade Balinese food. It's a simple, unpretentious place run by a couple who cook and serve the dishes in a warm atmosphere. It's just the kind of local warung we love discovering.

Uluwatu, cliffs, surfing and end of adventure in Indonesia

After several weeks travelling around Indonesia, we returned to Bali one last time. Five days between Uluwatu and Seminyak, without trying to fill the days, just to enjoy the island a little longer before turning the page. Uluwatu is known for its immense cliffs, its wild beaches and its very surfing atmosphere. We took the scooter and spent several days…

Nusa Penida: manta rays, cliffs and iconic beaches

We spent three days on Nusa Penida with a fairly clear program from the start: to meet manta rays and discover two of the most iconic beaches in Bali. From the first half-day, we went out to sea for an outing dedicated to diving with mantas at Manta Point. And there, a truly incredible experience: several enormous manta rays glided around us with almost…

Ubud: temples, rice fields, and Balinese culture

After Sumatra and Java, we spent two weeks in Bali with a simple desire: to slow down, rest a little and prepare for the rest of our trip. We chose to base ourselves in Ubud, an excellent base for exploring the center of the island while enjoying a relatively calm atmosphere. We were lucky enough to be present during the celebrations of Galungan and…
