Less open context
A place we recommend in a context where some discretion may feel preferable. This does not mean the venue is discriminatory.
The place in a few words
Located in Sayan, away from central Ubud, Bubu Warung is a small family-run restaurant serving homemade Balinese food. It's a simple, unpretentious place run by a couple who cook and serve the dishes in a warm atmosphere. It's just the kind of local warung we love discovering.
What we loved
We went back several times, both for the delicious food and the owner's kindness. We were in Bali during Galungan, an important religious celebration, and had the chance to chat with her quite a bit. She even gave us flowers and little lucky charms to wish us good luck, a gesture that really touched us. This was also where we discovered arak cocktails, made with a traditional Indonesian spirit. We tried others later in our travels, but none matched hers!
Our tip
If you visit Bubu Warung, make sure you try their arak cocktails! They're definitely one of the reasons we kept coming back. And if you're looking for somewhere to eat around Ubud, away from the more touristy restaurants in the centre, this is a place we'd happily recommend.
