Mancingan Rice Terrace
Less open context
A place we recommend in a context where some discretion may feel preferable. This does not mean the venue is discriminatory.
The place in a few words
Mancingan Rice Terraces are a lovely little stretch of terraced rice fields, ideal for a short walk through Bali's green countryside. A path takes you past the paddies, with plenty of opportunities for photos and glimpses of everyday local life. Allow around 20 to 30 minutes for a relaxed return walk. Entry is free, although you can leave a voluntary donation.
What we loved
We really liked how simple and authentic this place felt. Unlike some of Bali's busier rice terraces, here we could watch local people working in the fields and exchange a few words with them. We even bought a fresh coconut directly from a local, a small encounter that made our visit especially enjoyable.
Our tip
We wouldn't necessarily make a special trip just for these rice terraces, but they're well worth a short detour if you're nearby. Try to visit late in the afternoon, as the sun gets lower. The warm golden light makes the fields especially beautiful for photos.
