We’re not entirely sure why, but cities by the sea almost always seem easier to fall in love with. Sometimes all it takes is a beach instead of a park, a bridge stretching across a bay, or a glimpse of the horizon between skyscrapers for a big city to suddenly feel a little more like a holiday destination. That was exactly the feeling Busan gave us. And…
“I feel like I’m in the Teletubbies.” That is genuinely the first thing we say when we discover the huge, perfectly green hills scattered throughout the parks of Gyeongju. Except that here, underneath those mounds, there are tombs. And sometimes, the tombs of kings and queens who lived more than a thousand years ago. For almost a millennium, Gyeongju was…
A restaurant specialising in bibimbap that we really enjoyed in Busan. The food was absolutely delicious, the portions were generous and the prices very reasonable. As in many restaurants in Korea, the bibimbap comes on a tray with several small side dishes, which makes the experience even more enjoyable.
The setting is simple and the service is very quick. Even if the team does not necessarily speak much English, they more than make up for it with their kindness and we immediately felt welcome. Bibijae has also received a Michelin Bib Gourmand, which recognises good food at reasonable prices. A very good address that we definitely recommend in Busan.

A nice gay bar in Busan where we had a really good evening. There were not many people that night, just a few locals and a few foreigners, so we stayed at the bar and started talking with the owner.
He was really kind and told us lots of stories about Busan, especially about the gay neighbourhood, while also giving us several recommendations. He even offered us some fruit during the evening. The place is nice, the prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is relaxed. The bar is upstairs and is not necessarily easy to spot from the street, but there is a small sign showing the entrance. Even though it was quiet that night, we had a really good time.

One of our favourite experiences in Busan. For around 30 minutes, the small colourful capsules slowly travel along the coast between Mipo and Cheongsapo, with a beautiful view of the sea.
If you want to take the most popular route departing from Mipo, we recommend booking around two weeks in advance. And if, like us, you leave it until the last minute, simply check availability in the opposite direction from Cheongsapo. In our humble opinion, it is absolutely worth it: there are far fewer people, almost no queues and the experience is just as enjoyable. The view is just as beautiful, and seeing the other little capsules passing in front of you actually adds something to the experience. We loved these 30 minutes, and the staff were also really friendly.
