Le Marais, Paris’s gay district

The place at a glance
In central Paris, Le Marais is a historic neighborhood and one of the city’s main LGBTQ+ gathering places. Around Rue des Archives and Rue Sainte-Croix-de-la-Bretonnerie, you’ll find gay bars, restaurants, shops and even rainbow pedestrian crossings.
What we loved
We love this neighborhood by day and by night. One of our favorite things is sitting at a terrace café, watching people go by and exchanging slightly cheeky comments about the crowd! Later, we head to the bars for the nightlife. We also love the neighborhood’s playful humor, even in bakeries selling rather suggestively shaped breads and pastries.
Our tip
Come in the late afternoon to enjoy the terraces before heading to the bars. Don’t stick to just one street: wander through the smaller lanes around Rue des Archives to discover the different sides of Le Marais.
