The place in a few words

In central Paris, 59 Rivoli is a former artists’ squat turned public creative space. Occupied by artists in 1999 and later purchased by the City of Paris, this Haussmann-style building now hosts around thirty resident artists. Across six floors, visitors can explore studios, paintings, sculptures and street art. Admission is free!

What we loved

What struck us most was the contrast between bustling Rue de Rivoli and the wonderfully unconventional world inside. As soon as we stepped through the door, we found a building where walls, stairs and corners were bursting with creativity. We loved wandering freely from floor to floor, discovering very different artistic styles and watching artists at work in their studios. It’s a spontaneous, approachable way to experience contemporary art.

Our tip

Allow around 45 minutes to an hour to explore the floors at your own pace. Feel free to chat with the artists and leave an optional donation to support the space. Entry is free, and visits are possible Tuesday to Sunday, 1 pm to 8 pm, near Châtelet metro station.
