14 days in Palawan: Coron to Port Barton

From Coron’s lagoons to Port Barton’s beaches, with four days sailing between islands: a route bringing together our favourite Palawan memories. This 14-day route is a suggested itinerary drawn from our own, sometimes longer, stays. Transfers are included; international flights are not.

Days 1–3

Coron

Spend a few days in Coron before the expedition. The town is a base; the scenery we loved is mostly reached by boat.

Day 1 · Settle in

Arrive at Busuanga and take a van to Coron. Settle in, confirm your expedition meeting point and keep the evening easy: there are still two days to explore.

Coron

Day 2 · Coron’s lagoons

Spend the day on a bangka outing around Twin Lagoon, Kayangan Lake and Barracuda Lake. These landscapes made us glad we stayed in Coron instead of arriving only the night before sailing.

Day 3 · A beach day

Choose a second outing focused on beaches, then pack a small bag for four days at sea. Do not plan on a big walkable beach from central Coron: our outings were by boat.

Choose outings by interest: lagoons and lakes on one day, beaches on another. Our story explains why Coron deserves time before the expedition. Confirm what you take aboard and what stays ashore with your operator.

Days 4–7

Coron to El Nido expedition

Four days and three nights of beaches, snorkelling and simple island camps. The people mattered as much as the scenery: one of our favourite Philippine memories.

Day 4 · Cast off

Meet the group and leave the exact route to the crew. The first swims and shared meals set the mood. Island stops depend on your operator and sea conditions.

Day 5 · Follow the boat’s rhythm

Snorkelling, beach time, meals cooked on board and an evening at camp: leave room for simplicity. In our story, this rhythm and the other travellers made the expedition special.

Day 6 · Really disconnect

Enjoy the islands and time with the group. Camps are rustic, reception is limited and comfort is secondary. Pack using the operator’s list rather than as if going to a resort.

Day 7 · Reach El Nido

Leave this final day to the expedition, then reach your hotel. Ours ended near San Fernando before the transfer to El Nido: check what arrival point your booking includes.

Nights are spent in simple huts with shared spaces. Choose this expedition for group life and disconnection, with rustic comfort. Compare more than boat photos: ask about sleeping arrangements, included transfers and meals. In our experience, camp evenings and shared life mattered as much as snorkelling stops. This is not a floating hotel.

Days 8–10

El Nido

After sailing, enjoy hotel comforts, lagoons, sunsets and evenings with travellers you met along the way.

Day 8 · Lagoons before the crowds

Book an early boat departure. Our private outing, shared with two women from the expedition, let us enjoy Big Lagoon at a gentler pace. Stops still depend on permits and weather.

El Nido

Day 9 · Beach, zipline and sunset

Keep the day for beaches around El Nido and, if you fancy it, the zipline we tried. Later, settle in facing the bay without scheduling every minute.

Day 10 · A day with room to linger

Pool, a stroll, coffee and a free evening: in El Nido we also loved meeting our expedition group again. Arrange tomorrow’s van before enjoying the last night.

We shared our private outing with two travellers met on the expedition. It is worth comparing for a small group: the programme, permitted stops and overall budget matter more than the word ‘private’. Keep an evening free for people met along the way.

Days 11–14

Port Barton

Finish Palawan at a slower pace. Our five days in Port Barton were about cafés, banana bread, diving and sunsets from a seaside bungalow.

Day 11 · Change pace

Travel to Port Barton by van, settle in and plan only a waterfront walk. The transfer is part of the day, not something squeezed between excursions.

Port Barton

Day 12 · Coconut Beach and free time

Visit Coconut Beach, then keep the afternoon free. Here we loved alternating beach time, reading and small cafés instead of collecting sights.

Day 13 · Underwater or in a café

Divers can book an outing; others can enjoy the beach. Matthieu completed a two-day Advanced course here: one free day is not enough for that whole course. End with a final sunset.

Day 14 · Leave some breathing room

Take a prebooked van to Puerto Princesa. For a separate international flight from Manila or Cebu, add an overnight connection if timings do not leave a comfortable buffer.

Do not fill Port Barton with another excursion checklist. Coffee, banana bread and evenings by the sea were part of its appeal for us. If booking a diving course, allow the days required by the centre rather than squeezing it into a free morning.
