The place in a few words

Tucked away in a little alley off Bassac Lane in Phnom Penh, The Welsh Embassy is a tiny Welsh pub unlike any other bar in the neighbourhood. Spread across two floors, it embraces its roots with flags, wooden details and walls covered in signatures, drawings and little notes left by visitors. You'll find Welsh beers, cocktails and gin and tonics on the menu. A little piece of Wales right in the heart of Cambodia!

What we loved

We really fell for this little bar, so much so that we went back several evenings during our stay in Phnom Penh. Our favourite spot? Upstairs, where we'd settle in with our gin and tonics, enjoy the excellent music and escape the bustle of Bassac Lane for a while. The manager was lovely, the welcome always warm, and the decor full of fun little details to discover. We're not sure whether it was the music, the atmosphere or the gin and tonics, but we felt so comfortable there that we never really wanted to leave!

Our tip

We'd suggest coming early in the evening, while things are still quiet, so you can take your time over a beer or a good cocktail. It's a lovely place to ease into the night before heading off to explore the livelier bars around Bassac Lane. And if you manage to find a spot upstairs, even better!
