Neighbourhoods
General venue
A recommended place without a particular LGBTQ+ positioning.
The place in a few words
In the Tonle Bassac neighbourhood, Bassac Lane is a narrow pedestrian alley just off Street 308, surrounded by little side streets filled with bars and restaurants. In the evening, the terraces come alive, the lights switch on, and every venue has its own atmosphere, from intimate little pubs to livelier cocktail bars. A great area for a night out in Phnom Penh.
What we loved
We were staying just around the corner, so we stumbled upon Bassac Lane completely by chance. And we ended up going back several evenings! We loved the lively atmosphere, with Cambodians, expats and travellers all mixing together. What we particularly enjoyed were the tiny bars tucked away in the alleyways, especially The Library and The Welsh Embassy. Every place has its own personality, which makes exploring the neighbourhood so much fun.
Our tip
Come in the evening and don't stick to the main street. Wander into the little alleyways, peek inside the bars and see which atmosphere appeals to you. Our advice is to try several places throughout the night rather than staying in just one. That's how we discovered our favourites!
