The place in a few words

Garden Night Market is Tainan's largest night market, in a city famous for its food. Hundreds of stalls offer a maze of Taiwanese street food, grilled dishes, seafood, desserts and drinks. Beyond the food, you'll also find clothing, small shops and carnival games. It's a lively open-air market with something happening around every corner.

What we loved

We've visited quite a few night markets across Asia, but this one really impressed us! It's probably one of the biggest we've experienced, and the atmosphere is wild. There are people everywhere, stalls seem to go on forever, and you hardly know where to look. It's loud, chaotic and sometimes a little overwhelming, but we loved the energy and, above all, the huge variety of food that makes you want to try everything.

Our tip

Come hungry and forget about sitting down for one big meal! Instead, pick up small portions from different stalls and sample as many specialties as you can. Be curious, try whatever catches your eye and take note of the stalls where locals queue. Check the opening days before heading out, too: the market isn't open every night.
