Pink Beach

Pink Beach

Less open context

A place we recommend in a context where some discretion may feel preferable. This does not mean the venue is discriminatory.

The place in a few words

Pink Beach is one of the most unusual beaches in Indonesia's Komodo National Park. Its distinctive pink sand gets its colour from tiny fragments of red-pigmented marine organisms, including foraminifera, mixed with white sand. Surrounded by dry hills and turquoise water, it's also a lovely place for swimming and snorkelling.

What we loved

We discovered Pink Beach during our liveaboard in Komodo National Park, and it was a lovely stop between excursions. What surprised us was that the sand really is pink! Just don't expect the bright pink you see in some heavily edited Instagram photos. The colour is still noticeable and makes the beach quite special. We especially loved switching between snorkelling, swimming and simply relaxing on the sand.

Our tip

As with Padar Island, we'd recommend visiting Pink Beach on a multi-day liveaboard rather than a day trip from Labuan Bajo. You'll have a better chance to enjoy the beach without rushing through a packed itinerary. And don't forget your mask and snorkel: there's plenty to explore underwater too!
