Padar Island
Less open context
A place we recommend in a context where some discretion may feel preferable. This does not mean the venue is discriminatory.
The place in a few words
Located in Indonesia’s Komodo National Park, Padar Island is known for its sweeping view over three bays divided by steep hills. Reached only by boat, the island offers several viewpoints after a climb of around 20 minutes. From above, the rugged ridges, differently coloured beaches and surrounding sea create an unforgettable landscape.
What we loved
We visited Padar Island at sunrise during our three-day liveaboard in Komodo National Park. We certainly weren’t alone: lots of boats arrive around the same time. Luckily, the different viewpoints give everyone a little room. Once the sun was fully up and the whole island appeared in the morning light, we just thought: “Wow!” It was one of the landscapes that impressed us most during our travels through Southeast Asia.
Our tip
Although day trips from Labuan Bajo are available, we recommend visiting Padar Island on a two- or three-day liveaboard. It makes exploring Komodo National Park much more relaxed, without rushing between stops or travelling there and back by boat in a single day. We went at sunrise, but some itineraries also visit at sunset.
