We came to Bangkok for Pride, almost on a whim. From Silom Soi 4 to DJ Station, we share our nights out, encounters and the places we actually explored.

Silom Soi 4 – Bangkok’s gay nightlife street

About this place

If you're wondering where to go out in Bangkok's gay district, Silom Soi 4 is a great place to start. This short street is one of the city's main LGBTQ+ nightlife hubs. Bar terraces spill onto the street, with the atmosphere getting livelier as the evening goes on. Whether you're after a relaxed drink, new encounters or drag shows at Stranger Bar, there's something for everyone.

What we loved

For us, Silom Soi 4 is easily one of the best gay nightlife streets we've come across on our travels! We've developed our own little routine here, especially at Balcony Pub, where we love sitting outside for a drink before heading out. The staff are always lovely, joking around and stopping for a chat. What really makes us smile is that they sometimes remember us from one night to the next! And we always end up meeting interesting people from all over the world.

Our tip

We recommend starting your night on Silom Soi 4, preferably at an outdoor table so you can soak up the street atmosphere. If you enjoy drag shows, check what's on at Stranger Bar. And if you feel like dancing afterwards, head to nearby Silom Soi 2, just a few minutes' walk away, home to the well-known DJ Station.

DJ Station

About this place

Located in Bangkok's Silom district, DJ Station is one of the city's best-known gay nightlife venues. Spread across several floors, the club offers different atmospheres, from international pop and K-pop to electronic music and drag performances. Although it mainly attracts a gay crowd, both locals and travellers are welcome.

What we loved

We discovered DJ Station during Bangkok Pride Week and loved the atmosphere so much that we went back four or five times during our stay! What we especially enjoyed was the lively, inclusive atmosphere and being able to switch things up by moving between floors. We had some fantastic nights there and met plenty of people.

Our tip

We recommend starting the night with the drag shows, which generally take place around midnight and are well worth seeing! They finish earlier than the parties in the other rooms, where the atmosphere stays lively until closing time, around 4 a.m. When we visited, entry cost 400 baht and included two drinks worth approximately 300 baht.

The Balcony Pub

About this place

In the heart of Silom Soi 4, one of Bangkok's best-known LGBTQ+ nightlife streets, The Balcony Pub is a welcoming bar for a quick drink or a whole evening out. With indoor seating, a terrace overlooking the street, pool tables, sports screenings and occasional live music, there's usually something going on.

What we loved

Every time we're in Bangkok, we end up back at The Balcony Pub. Starting our evening here on Silom Soi 4 has become a little ritual. We especially love the relaxed atmosphere and the staff, who are always friendly, quick to serve and happy to joke or chat with us. And when there's live music, even better! We've often been genuinely impressed by the singers. It's simply somewhere we feel comfortable and love returning to.

Our tip

We recommend going early in the evening and grabbing a terrace table to watch Silom Soi 4 come alive. It's a great starting point before exploring the neighbourhood's other bars. But if you feel like staying, the music, pool tables and atmosphere can easily keep you entertained for the evening.

Bangkok, an unforeseen stopover

There are steps that we prepare for months, and others that are almost self-imposed. Bangkok was in the second category. We had a somewhat hesitant week ahead of us, with nothing set in stone, hesitating between heading directly to Indonesia or spending a few more days in the Philippines. And then we realized it was Bangkok Pride time. We always dreamed of…
