The Great Escape
LGBTQ+ friendly
A welcoming place open to LGBTQ+ people.
For us, The Great Escape is an LGBT-friendly bar: we feel comfortable here thanks to its open, international and welcoming atmosphere.
The place in a few words
The Great Escape is one of Lausanne's most iconic bars! Between the cathedral and Place de la Riponne, its enormous terrace contrasts with its small interior. Locals, students and expats mingle in a lively international atmosphere. This sports bar also shows football and rugby and hosts events, including summer concerts. In winter, part of the terrace is heated.
What we loved
We've probably spent more time here than at almost any other bar together, and enjoyed some of our best nights out in Lausanne! We love the international crowd, the incredibly kind staff and the reasonable Swiss prices, which have barely changed in years. Even when it's packed, the team serves impressively fast. The burgers are delicious, but after a few drinks we especially love the nuggets and potato wedges. Sometimes the night even ends with people dancing on the bar!
Our tip
We especially recommend weekends or the happy hours, usually around 6–6:30 pm and 10–10:30 pm. These times aren't always advertised, so ask the staff! In summer, make the most of the huge terrace and cathedral view. In our experience, the bar closes only on 1 August, but check opening times before visiting.
