The place in a few words

Located on the west coast of Gran Canaria, Playa de Güigüi is a wild volcanic-sand beach surrounded by towering cliffs. From Tasartico, a challenging 10–11 km round-trip hike leads to the beach, taking around 5–6 hours of walking with approximately 900–1,100 m of cumulative elevation gain. A spectacular trail through the island's rugged volcanic mountains.

What we loved

This was personally our favourite hike in Gran Canaria! The scenery is incredible, with towering volcanic cliffs in every direction, dramatic ravines and sweeping Atlantic Ocean views. We almost found the hike itself more beautiful than the beach. And yet the beach is stunning, wild and rarely crowded. For us, the main reason to come is the hike, with the beach as a reward for all the effort. It's challenging, but absolutely worth it!

Our tip

Start early from Tasartico and allow a full day. The trail is steep, rocky and highly exposed to the sun. Bring at least 3 litres of water per person, food and proper hiking shoes. There are no shops or drinking-water facilities at the beach. Save enough energy for the return, as you must climb back up to the mountain pass before descending to Tasartico.
