Pier-2 Art Center
General venue
A recommended place without a particular LGBTQ+ positioning.
The place in a few words
A former port warehouse district transformed into a cultural hub, Pier-2 Art Center is now one of Kaohsiung's most creative neighborhoods. Between repurposed industrial buildings, monumental sculptures, street art, galleries and temporary exhibitions, art can be found around every corner. The area retains its maritime heritage while showcasing a more contemporary and artistic side of the city.
What we loved
What we particularly enjoyed was exploring Pier-2 without a set itinerary, simply following whichever artworks caught our attention. Every turn brought a new surprise, from original installations to unexpected exhibitions. We also wandered around at dusk, when the lighting and illuminated artworks gave the neighborhood a completely different atmosphere. It was a lovely way to discover another side of Kaohsiung.
Our tip
We recommend allowing at least one or two hours to explore the neighborhood at your own pace, or longer if you want to visit the exhibitions. Ideally, arrive in the late afternoon to enjoy the area in daylight, then stay until after dark to see the illuminated installations. Keep in mind that galleries and exhibition spaces have their own opening hours.
