General venue

A recommended place without a particular LGBTQ+ positioning.

The place in a few words

Located near Veneguera in western Gran Canaria, Charcos Azules are natural pools nestled in a volcanic landscape. The hike takes you through a valley surrounded by impressive cliffs and rock formations in different shades. After rainfall, pools and small waterfalls may appear, but the amount of water varies considerably with the season and recent precipitation.

What we loved

We really enjoyed this hike, especially the scenery and views across the valley and surrounding mountains. The cliffs lining the trail give the landscape a beautiful, wild feel. Even when the pools are dry, the walk is worth it for the chance to discover a more mountainous side of Gran Canaria, very different from its coastal scenery.

Our tip

We recommend driving to the start of the hike. Bring sturdy shoes, water and sun protection, as some sections are rocky with little shade. Above all, don't count on seeing waterfalls or full pools: it depends on recent rainfall and the season. Come for the hike and its scenery, and treat any water as a bonus!
