The place in a few words
Near Kuta in southern Lombok, Bukit Merese is a hill offering lovely views of the coastline, beaches and surrounding landscape. Grassy slopes roll down towards the ocean, with several spots where you can sit and take it all in. The best time to come is late afternoon, when the sun begins to set.
What we loved
We won't pretend otherwise: we love sunsets! And sometimes it doesn't take much for us to have a great time. We simply found a little spot on the hill, sat down and enjoyed the view. No activity, no schedule, just the two of us watching the sun disappear over the horizon. These are some of our favourite travel moments: the simple ones when we finally slow down and do nothing.
Our tip
We recommend coming specifically for sunset, as there's not much else to do here. Feel free to bring a drink or snack while you wait, but please take your rubbish with you! Sadly, we saw quite a lot of litter around. It's a shame to see such a beautiful natural place spoiled, and keeping it clean means other travellers can enjoy it too.
