The place in a few words

The Hà Giang Loop is a motorbike circuit through the mountains of northern Vietnam, near the Chinese border. Over several days, you cross impressive mountain passes, green valleys and traditional villages. Different options are available, usually lasting 3 or 4 days, either riding yourself or travelling on the back of a motorbike with a local driver, known as an easy rider.

What we loved

We chose the 4-day, 3-night option, and it was one of our favourite experiences in Vietnam! The further you get from Hà Giang city, the more spectacular the scenery becomes. What really struck us was how much the landscapes change from one day to the next: towering mountains, rice fields, valleys and small villages. We were blown away for four days, feeling like we were discovering a completely different side of Vietnam at every stage.

Our tip

We really recommend doing the loop with an easy rider, a local driver who takes you on the back of their motorbike. Some roads are narrow, winding and quite intimidating, especially if you're not used to mountain riding. Being driven makes it much easier to enjoy the views!

Choose your tour operator carefully too! Some offer small, relaxed groups, while others focus more on partying at the homestays in the evenings. Ask how many people have already booked for your dates, not just the usual group size. We wanted to share the experience with other travellers, but ended up almost on our own! Ask all your questions before booking.
